Your profile & nutrition targets
Used by the Dashboard to show your progress and estimate how many weeks you're likely to take to get there, based on your weekly rate below. It doesn't change your daily calorie target on its own — the Goal and rate do that.
Aahar estimates your maintenance calories (BMR × activity level), then subtracts or adds a daily amount based on how much you want to lose or gain per week (1kg of body weight ≈ 7700 kcal). A slower, steadier rate (0.25–0.5 kg/week) is generally easier to sustain than an aggressive one.

USDA FoodData Central (optional)
Search 300,000+ foods from FoodData Central right alongside Aahar's own library. Get a free key at fdc.nal.usda.gov/api-key-signup.html — it's saved in your encrypted log, never sent anywhere except directly to USDA's API.
AI food generator (optional)
When a food isn't in Aahar's library or USDA's database, generate accurate-estimate calories, macros and micronutrients with AI — it's saved to your library afterwards so you never have to generate it again. Get a free key at console.groq.com/keys — saved in your encrypted log, only ever sent directly to Groq's API.

Help & guide

The daily view

Aahar opens on today. The ring and the big number show how many calories you've logged for the day; set a daily goal to see how much is left. Move between days with the ‹ › arrows.

Editing entries

Tap the on any logged item to change its amount, or to remove it. Everything saves automatically.

Three sources, one search

The Add food screen has your quick-add fields at the top, then Aahar's own curated library (this grows over time — see below), then — if you've added a free USDA API key in Settings — a USDA FoodData Central section searching 300,000+ foods. Type 3+ letters to search both at once.

  • Raw ingredients — flours, dals, rice, vegetables, fruit, nuts, milk. Great for logging what you cooked with.
  • Cooked — cooked staples like plain rice, dal, roti, sabzi, curries.
  • Dishes & meals — full dishes, snacks, sweets and drinks (biryani, samosa, gulab jamun, chai…).
  • USDA FoodData Central — a huge external database, useful for packaged/branded foods and anything not in Aahar's own list.
  • Custom entry — type a name, the calories, and how many servings. Perfect for a home recipe or a packet label.

Still can't find it? Generate with AI

If a food isn't in Aahar's library or USDA's database, add a free Groq API key in Settings, then tap ✨ Generate "…" with AI at the bottom of the search results. Aahar asks AI for calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber and a micronutrient estimate for that food, and saves it to your own library — it'll show up with an AI badge in future searches (even offline), so you only ever generate a given food once.

Any unit you like

After picking a food, choose how you measured it: serving, number (e.g. "2 blueberries" — tell Aahar roughly how many grams one item is, or leave the default guess), gm, oz, lb, ml, L, tsp, tbsp, or cup. The calorie and macro totals update live as you type.

About USDA and AI data

USDA figures are read straight from FoodData Central per 100g (their standard basis) and converted using the unit you pick. AI-generated figures are Groq's best estimate, not a lab measurement. Both are useful references but, like all figures here, approximate rather than exact for your specific item.

What each fasting plan means

12:12 — 12 hours fasting, 12 hours eating. The gentlest option, often just overnight (e.g. sleep 8pm–8am). A good place for beginners to start.

16:8 — 16 hours fasting, an 8-hour eating window (e.g. 12pm–8pm). The most common intermittent fasting schedule.

18:6 — 18 hours fasting, a 6-hour eating window. A step up once 16:8 feels easy.

20:4 — 20 hours fasting, a 4-hour eating window (sometimes called the "Warrior Diet" style). More advanced; break the fast gently.

OMAD — One Meal A Day, roughly a 23:1 split. Your one meal needs to be balanced and cover your day's nutrition.

Custom — pick any number of fasting hours that suits you.

Choose a fasting plan

Pick a plan from the dropdown on the fasting card — this sets your daily goal. Tap the next to the "Intermittent fasting" label any time for a quick reminder of what your selected plan means and general fasting tips.

Start / end a fast

Tap Start fast when your eating window closes. The ring fills as you approach your goal; tap End fast to log it. If you reach your target hours, that day is automatically marked complete. Fasting can only be started or stopped on today — past days show a read-only summary.

The ✓ save icon

Tap the button next to Start/End fast to manually mark (or unmark) the day you're viewing as a completed fast — handy if you tracked it another way. A green next to the date at the top means that day is complete. Your streak counts consecutive completed days.

Reminders

In Settings → Fasting reminders, turn on a start-fast, break-fast, and/or log-a-meal reminder and set a time using the time picker. Tap Enable for browser notifications — these fire automatically every day at that time while Aahar is open in a tab.

For reminders that work even when Aahar isn't open, tap Add reminders to your calendar to download a .ics file with daily-repeating events — import it once into Google Calendar, Outlook, or Apple Calendar and it keeps notifying you every day.

Your daily targets

In Settings → Your profile & nutrition targets, enter your sex, age, height, weight, activity level and goal (lose / maintain / gain). Aahar estimates a daily calorie, protein, carb, fat and fiber target using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, your activity level, and a protein target of about 1.6g per kg of bodyweight.

Today's progress

The Nutrition targets card on the main screen fills in as you log food — bars show how close you are to each macro target for the day you're viewing.

Micronutrient chips

Chips like Iron, Calcium, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, B12, Potassium and Omega-3 each show the recommended daily amount for someone with your sex and age (e.g. "Iron · 18mg/day needed") and light up green once you've logged at least one food that's a good source of that nutrient that day. This is a simple coverage check against a standard reference amount, not a precise milligram count of what you actually ate.

Tips

Below the chips, Aahar suggests specific foods from the library to add if you're short on a macro or missing a nutrient for the day — e.g. "low on protein — try paneer, dal, or chicken breast."

These are general estimates for a healthy adult, not medical or dietary advice. If you have a medical condition or specific nutrition needs, please check with a doctor or dietitian.

Logging activity

Tap 🏃 Add activity next to Add food. Pick from common activities (walking, running, yoga, weight training, and more) and enter a duration — Aahar estimates calories burned using a MET value (a standard exercise-intensity measure) × your body weight × time. You can also use Quick add to type a name and a calorie figure directly, e.g. from a fitness watch.

How it affects "remaining"

Calories burned are subtracted from what you've eaten to give your net calories for the day — this is what's compared to your goal, shown in the "kcal left" chip, and used to award the day's ⭐ on the Calendar.

Desired weight

Set a target weight in Settings → Your profile. It doesn't change your calorie target by itself (your Goal and weekly rate do that) — it's used by the Dashboard to show progress and a rough time estimate.

The Dashboard

Tap the 📊 icon for an overview: your weight trend against your goal weight, current streak and total stars, a 7-day calorie bar chart, and a few plain-language recommendations based on your recent logging (like whether you're tracking above or below target, or low on protein). Log your weight from the Dashboard any time to update the trend line — each entry is saved with its date so you can see it change over time.

Open the calendar

Tap the 📅 icon in the top bar to see a month view with your streak and stars.

How a ⭐ is earned

A day earns a star when you've logged at least one food item and your total calories for that day are at or under your calorie target. Your target comes from your Settings → Goal calorie value if you've set one, otherwise from your nutrition profile's calculated target.

Streak

Your current streak counts consecutive days (ending today) with a star. It resets if a day is logged over target, or if a day has no entries at all. The calendar also shows your best streak ever and your total stars earned.

Reading the grid

Each date shows the day number, a small calorie total if you logged anything, and a ⭐ badge if that day hit your target. Tap any day to jump straight to it in your log.

Sync across your devices (optional, free)

Aahar works fully on its own. To sync between your phone and computer, use your own free Cloudflare Worker so your data stays yours. Your fasting plan, streak, nutrition profile, targets, reminder settings, USDA API key, Groq API key, and any AI-generated foods are all part of the same encrypted log, so they sync automatically too — no extra setup needed for them.

Option A — Cloudflare dashboard only (fastest)

  1. Make a free account at dash.cloudflare.com.
  2. Workers & Pages → Create → Create Worker, name it (e.g. aahar-sync), deploy the starter.
  3. Storage & Databases → KV → Create namespace, name it exactly AAHAR.
  4. Open your Worker → Settings → Variables & Bindings → KV namespace bindings → Add binding: variable name AAHAR, namespace AAHAR. Save.
  5. Worker → Edit code, paste in the Worker code from this product's README, and Deploy.
  6. Copy your Worker URL (looks like https://aahar-sync.YOURNAME.workers.dev).

Option B — Deploy from GitHub (auto-redeploy on push)

  1. Make a free account at github.com.
  2. Create a repo (e.g. aahar-sync) with worker.js and wrangler.toml from the README.
  3. In Cloudflare: Workers & Pages → Create → Connect to Git, pick the repo.
  4. Create the AAHAR KV namespace (Option A, step 3) and make sure it matches the binding in wrangler.toml.
  5. Deploy — every git push redeploys automatically from then on.

Connect Aahar

  1. In Settings → Sync, paste the Worker URL, tap Generate for a private code, and turn sync on.
  2. On your other device, open Aahar with the same URL, code and password, then tap Pull now.

Keep your sync code safe: different code = separate data, so no one can see or overwrite your log.
